| Happy Birthday Mom!!!!!!
love, ~Em
Oh my....my daughter has my password and just can't be trusted with secret information Well, it is my birthday. We had a nice dinner last night where I opened my presents from my Mom ( a lovely sweater) and my sister ( a great shirt and gift card to Barnes and Noble, and I have to mention, a very funny card!). I had previously recieved a new MP3 player from my husband, but last night he presented it to me again, this time loaded with a favorite sermon. This morning I was awakend early by the pitter patter of little feet as my youngest came into my room and presented me with a card. I felt like a Hallmark commercial as I sat up in bed and read it out loud to him, then gave him a big kiss and thanked him for remembering my birthday (even though he found the card in the hall in front of my bedroom door - it was from my husband and he wanted me to see it when I got up . Then I felt like a princess, as my youngest left the room and let me sleep in! I got to sleep sinfully late (8:30) before he once again arrived to inform me that he was really hungry. When I went downstairs to fix his breakfast, my daughter surprised me with a Bocelli CD (a favorite!) and a lovely Irish wool hat from my oldest (he bought it while in Ireland last summer). There was another card from my husband leaning up against the coffeemaker - no my husband wasn't leaning on the coffee maker, the card was! Then I felt like a queen as I sat sipping coffee, enjoying my family, and listening to my new Bocelli CD until 9:30. What a great morning! Thank you Lord for giving me such a wonderful family and for giving me another great birthday. I am so thankful! Tonight, we go to Hampden Sydney to listen to the mens choral concert at the College Church. Since it is such a liberal church, it isn't likely that I would be there any other way, but I'm excited to visit the church (pre civil war - the Union Army used it as housing and there are still lots of bullet holes in the front doors), to hear the concert, and especially to have my whole family together under one roof for my birthday. Praise be to God!

| Recently I have missed spending time with some old friends so I decided to look them up. I have had a wonderful time catching up with all my friends from Narnia. We spent several weeks together as we relived old times together, then as always, it was time for us to go our separate ways. They are once again perched on my bookshelf as we both look forward to our next visit together. After having such a wonderful time with my Narnian friends, I decided to look up some others from my past. It just seemed appropriate, but who? Why, my friends from Mitford, of course. Who else can usher in the Advent season better than Father Tim? It has been such a wonderful journey to travel to the mountains of North Carolina and spend time with such a delightful group of down home folks. Joy to the World, the Lord has come - Christmas is just around the corner and I'm getting so excited! | | |
| My youngest was having a bit of an attitude throughout the day, so when he wouldn't nap, I decided to take him to the zoo for an hour or two. We have passes, so it seemed like the thing to do. After arriving at the zoo, we walked down to the aviary. It is quite large and has a nice little pond and a stream that runs through it. The pond is filled with exotic ducks, spoonbills, and flamingos. My youngest ran ahead, as always, eye-spying everything at once. Before I knew it, he had fallen off the bridge that spans the pond and was laying on his side IN the pond with the flamingos. Oh my! He is a trooper though. We stayed to see the bear, feed the giraffes, hear the lions roar, and have a soft serve - even though he was soaked through and he squished when he walked. Life is always an adventure with a 4 year old in tow! | | |
| After several months of learning how to match his clothes (play clothes together, church clothes together, 'going out' clothes together, etc), and after spending almost a week 'rowing' through our Before Five in a Row book, Jessie Bear, What Will You Wear, I decided that today was the perfect day for my youngest to not only decide what to wear, but to have no supervision at all in choosing and dressing himself. So when I heard his little voice hollaring out from his room, "Mooooooommmmm!", I just hollared back, "You can get up and I want you to go potty and dress yourself all by yourself this morning." There were a few moans and groans and he even showed up in his pj's just to make sure he had heard correctly. Did I really mean what he thought he heard? Then he was off to be a really big boy.
When he finally showed up for breakfast, I commented on what a good job he had done. He had on a red, white, and blue shirt with red, white, and blue pants. We have been studying patterns lately, and the red, white, and blue patterns have been in the forefront of his little mind as we have been picking out flags and patterns everywhere we have been. He looked so handsome and so coordinated! We had a nice breakfast and our morning was taking off with a flourish. I was so proud of what a good job he had done.
After breakfast, he headed off to go potty again. It wasn't long until I heard him hollar out that he was having some difficulty with his pants. I went in to see what was the problem. Not only were his underpants on backwards, but also inside outwards! He was trying his best to pull them up, but the angles were all wrong and they just wouldn't go up. I then checked out his shorts, backwards! His shirt? Backwards! Ok, so we still have some work to do. Right now, he is watching Jakers on PBS (my absolutely favorite cartoon!) while I write this. He is wearing his underwear on inside outwards and backwards. The remainder of his clothes are on backwards, as well. He is four and it is raining. He did a great job getting dressed with a great attitude. His Bible verse this week is "A cheerful heart is good medicine". 15 years ago, my older children would have had to change their clothes. I've learned alot in 15 years and praise God, may He continue to teach me, so that my actions may bring Him the glory! | | |
